Dear Jameson,
Hello my little prince! I was just thinking yesterday about updating this blog, and decided it is impossible to capture everything, but one thing that might help is if I go through a standard 'day' in the life of you. So lets try it..
You wake up usually around 7 now, but this really depends on how you slept through the night (or not). Today, you slept until after 9! But we were up playing from about 3:45 until 6, so you needed more sleep. So you get up around 7, and then you take a while to wake up. You like to play in your crib for a good 30 minutes or longer before you want to see us. You roll around, play with a few stuffed animals we leave in there for you, you stick your arms and legs through the slats in the crib. I have no idea what you're doing in there, but you seem very happy and just need some time to wake up. You talk, you sing, and eventually when you're done and ready to get out, you fuss a little and stand up at the edge of the crib looking towards the door.
You're all smiles when I come in to get you. You do hate getting a diaper change, but you're usually in a great mood and I can distract you with something from your changing table drawer, your toothbrush, booger sucker thing, ear thermometer.. whatever works! Usually I dress you for the day, or at least for the morning until you get messy. You wear all 18 month size clothes now. You hate getting dressed, but you help out a little, lifting your legs for your pants, and socks/shoes, putting your arms in your sleeves. You can say socks and shoes! You can say a LOT of words. I was trying to keep track at first, but it's too hard now, you're so smart and you say tons of words! Your newest words are dark, and banana (ba), and you say Kyla's name really cute, "KyKa".
Usually after I get you all dressed and ready for the day, we say good morning to your friends in your room and on your walls, and then I take you out to say good morning to the house, and the dogs (and Daddy if he's home!). You play for a while, talking to the dogs, watching a little TV, Franklin is usually on or Olivia. We give breakfast a try, you're eating a LOT better now. Your current faves are mac n cheese, cheese, chili, hot dogs, cottage cheese (you try to say those words too), and garlic bread. You did eat a few bites of my Lucky Charms the other day too! We're done with your OT now, you're eating great.. not perfect, but great.
Sometime during the morning I do try to get some milk/Pediasure into you. You're taking just one nap now, so we feed you a bottle sometimes as you're watching TV, or through the morning as we're busy doing other things.
Your imagination is really growing. You've pretended with stuffed animals for a while, and now cars. You love putting things IN things and taking them back out. You love this duck whistle on a yellow string that your Opa got you, you carry that everywhere. You love to play with non-toys, like kitchen stuff (or anything else you can pull out of drawers and cabinets). You like to take lotions and other bottles out of the bathroom cabinets and set them all over the place.. I have no idea why you do that but it's really interesting to you! You also like to take things in to these 2 plants we have, and put them in the dirt of the plant. You've knocked over one of them a few times, but it seems ok. You still LOVE the outdoors. We hunt for airplanes together, and you like to play in the rocks, and explore the bushes and pull off leaves and flowers. I got your a water table that you really like.. I think you could live in water, but I'll save that story for later. You love to be chased, and you love to turn it around and chase us. You love to be startled. You try all the time to make us laugh by making funny faces or sounds, you think it's hilarious when you burp or fart (typical boy!), and you spit out your pacifier (or food) really hard to try to get a laugh out of us. You actually just started whistling! It's so cute.
I've been trying to keep you up until around 1pm, that way you'll just take one nap, and that nap is usually a couple hours long. We have lunch before your nap, usually it's your best meal of the day! Then I'll usually give you a bottle with milk/pediasure in it when I lay you down for your nap. I still rock you to sleep, every nap and at bedtime. I should have taught you by now to put yourself to sleep, but I love rocking you, you love it, and it works for us. We'll have a discussion if I'm still doing it when you're around 5 years old :) You eat your bottle, and I hum or sing you to sleep. I have always sang the same few songs to you, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and recently added Close to You by a group called The Carpenters. For some odd reason, I can be humming to you and you wont go to sleep, but if I start singing instead your eyes will roll back and you'll go sound asleep, it's really strange!
While you nap, I try to get things done around the house.. clean up dishes or mop the floor, or take a few minutes to myself to read or watch some TV. Usually you wake up happy and playing, and I come and get you out of your crib. The other night you were trying to swing one of your legs over the edge of the crib, needless to say, we lowered it last night.
Usually after your nap, we'll go somewhere. The mall, the park, or errands I need to run. I'm joining a Mommy group, and they will have a bunch of activities through the week that we could join in and you could play with other kids. You love other kids! You tolerate errands ok, but honestly you really don't like it. You hate riding in the car, and usually get fed up with being in the cart at the grocery store pretty quickly. As happy go lucky as you can be, you can also be pretty inpatient and stubborn, and you let us know pretty clearly when you're not happy!
Our evening routine varies, depending on if your Oma and Opa are there for dinner (they are over often, you love them so much! and they are so helpfult o me), or if Daddy is home for dinner, or if it's just you and I. You usually don't like going out much, you really hate being confined anywhere, the car seat, the high chair, but the other night we went to Red Robin, and not only did you sit in your high chair fine, but you ATE a huge serving of mac n cheese from the Kids menu, which was a first for us, so it was very exciting. I just love that you eat better.. and eventually I'll have to switch it up on you and sneak in some veggies and fruits. We have dinner together, you usually eat ok at home, and then after dinner it's more play time, and then bath time.
You LOVE your bath (which you call "bapf" by the way). You'll run through the house saying BAPF!!!!!! really loud. You really don't care much about your regular bath toys, your current favorite thing to do is to have cups filled with bubbles or bath water, and a washcloth to place in and out of them.. over and over and over again. You also like to play with bottles of shampoo or whatever toiletries are sitting around the edges of the tub. You let us know when you're done by wanting to pull the plug on the water and telling the water bye bye, and you stand up and we dry you off. After that, I do what Oma started doing (because you HATE getting lotioned/changed/dressed after your bath), which is putting you naked in your crib and 'chasing' you around your crib with lotioned hands. Eventually I get you all lotioned up, you have so much fun just rolling around or standing up and falling down, it's hilarious!
You go to bed around 8:30, we start that whole routine by saying goodnight to the moon outside, and then goodnight to the dogs, the house, and your friends in your room. Then I feed you a bottle, sing to you, sometimes read a book, and rock you to sleep. Sometimes you're not quite ready to drift off, so we play little games with each other. Things like peek a boo, or you put your pacifier in my mouth and want me to 'blow' it out, or you point to my eyes, nose, mouth and I ask you to point to yours. Sometimes you try to trick me into thinking that you're not tired by almost falling asleep and then suddenly taking your pacifier out of your mouth and saying "HI!!" and giving me that to-die-for smile of yours. I have to laugh a little, but remind you that it's time to go night night, and off you go to sleep.
Well that's a typical day in the life of you. I don't think I even captured all of your magic, but that's impossible.
I love you so much, I'm so lucky to be your mommy (or mamama as you say).
Love, Mommy
